RISK AND SECURITY

Risk and Security

Historically security issues are tagged onto the end of a project or requirement, and are dealt with reactively. However in today’s world, risk and security issues must be addresses proactively. For all projects, risk and security must be taken into account at the concept and design stage, and carried thought to the operations by implementing policy and procedures which may be an accredited international initiative.

Terminal / Facility (On and Offshore) / FPSO Security

The purpose of the role of the risk consultant on any project must be in the concept and design through to the completion and operation to ensure that the correct systems are put in place; to mitigate the threats, vulnerabilities, likelihood and consequences identified during the concept assessment, development and implementation all aspects of security, and gather together the solutions; documentary, pratical, or technical in a central point know as the Command and Control centre. The design and use of a Command and Control centre requires two different skill sets.

The designers have detailed technical knowledge which can produce the best system currently available. The users have a deep seated practical knowledge of their own environment and the potential problems they face. Invariably the designers do not possess the practical level knowledge nor do the users have high level technical expertise.

The role of the risk security consultant is to bring together all of the various skill sets which will be necessary to bring the project to its full potential and fulfil the expectations of all of the stakeholders. By doing so the risk consultant can ensure that the Command and Control centre is a pivotal tool in providing, tactical and strategic solutions to the diverse problems facing a terminal / facility.

ISO 28000

With the globalisation of trade, risk and security issues are key elements of the corporate strategy management plan, and can no longer be paid lip service. Risk and security apply to all aspects of trade globalisation whether it is the facility, the product, the people (manufactures, logistics etc), information and intangibles and / or Transportation.

A security incident, directly or indirectly can affect market share/position, reputation, credibility, etc. and therefore a mitigation solution must be in place.

Globalisation issues have also be identified by governments and international bodies who have put various initiatives together (ISO 28000, AEO, ISPS, CIS, C-TPAT, etc) to aid organisations in understanding, developing, interfacing, implementing, risk and security solutions, policies and procedures that are accepted and bench marked international with other similar or diverse organisations.

FSClass understand this and have developed consultancy, products and services to help our clients understand and mitigate what come be a catastrophic issue if the unthinkable occurred, understanding that the majority of companies struggle to recover from a major security / risk incident. Our consultancy is across all industry sectors, but obviously specialising in the maritime, offshore and terminal areas.

FSClass risk and security consultancy services help any business, irrespective of current status or circumstance, to develop and implement pertinent documentation, to attain international accreditation such as ISO 28000 (Supply Chain Security).

The aim of such accreditations for all participants, business and trading partners is to establish and maintain appropriate risk & security measures for safeguarding people, goods, infrastructure, equipment and information within their particular area of responsibility and ensure that there is that continuity of security throughout the entire chain. This will enhance trade facilitation for legitimate trade that meets certain security standards. Specifically, authorized economic operators (AEO) can receive mutual recognition of their AEO status from other Customs administrations for securing their entire supply chain.
